Using the appropriate training equipment is important. It can mean the difference
between complete or partial success of your dog's training. Upon meeting and evaluating
your dog we will discuss training equipment options available and talk about which type of
training equipment is best suited for your dog's temperament.
 | Flat collar
|
When leash training your pup we normally start with a flat nylon or leather type
collar. This type of collar is lightweight and easy for your pup to get used to wearing.
 | Metal training collar
|
This collar is commonly referred to as a choke chain. A more appropriate description
would be a metal slip collar. When this equipment is used properly it should never choke
your dog. It should release quickly when used properly and its action is more of a
quick zip and release. When used with good timing and finesse it can be an effective
training tool.
 | Gentle leader
|
The Gentle Leader Head Collar offers a fast, gentle and effective way to control
unwanted behavior - without harsh methods or devices. It is scientifically designed to
work with your dog's natural instincts.
 | Prong collar
|
Although this collar looks intimidating to those who are unfamiliar, when used
correctly it can sometimes be the appropriate choice of equipment. As a rule this collar
is not used in training a puppy but can be effective in training a dog that is very
resistant and/or distractible.
 | Remote controlled training device
|
This equipment is commonly referred to as a shock collar. A better description would
be variable intensity stimulator. This collar should not be used without some guidance
from a professional trainer as the potential to confuse the dog with inappropriate usage
is real. When used appropriately the remote trainer can be highly effective and in many
cases a life saving tool.
 | Anti-bark collar
|
There are two types of anti-bark collars that we use and recommend. The first is the
Tri-tronics Bark Limiter. The second is the Anti Bark
Systems (ABS) citronella anti-bark collar.
